Error with danish characters in attached files.

    Hello.

    Im running zarafa on synolgy.

    WebApp:
    1.3-38243
    ZCP:
    7.1.2-39121
Users are using outlook 2010 running zarafaclient-7.1.7-43126

When users send mail with files attached with charaters "æ ø å" in the file name, the attached file is changes to a xxxxx.dat file.

And example for a file name is: Sortiment 2014 oplæg.xlsx becomes: ATT24428.dat

Any one having the same problem as me?

    Best regards
    René Olesen

    Hi Rene,

I just gave this a quick test on our local system. I have created a textfile with some random input and named it "Sortiment 2014 oplæg.txt". Attached it to a mail in Outlook 2013 (if it is really Zarafa related it should make no difference if Outlook 2010 or 2013). And send it to one of my colleges. Here the attachment arrived with its original name.
    Regards Felix

    Hello Felix again.

I just tryed with a .txt file like you... It also did the same.. changed the file to ATT24660.dat(1KB)

    But...

It only happens if i send it to microsoft Exchange server.
If I send it to my own Gmail its will arrive as a .txt file.

I dont know that i should do with this. Is its kinda importent that we can send mails to microsoft exchange.

    Regards René

    Hi René,

ah I thought you already see these renamed attachment locally. Is it one specific Exchange systems where you see these problems, or do you see it with Exchange in general? Do you happen to know which version they are running (this info is normally included in the headers of a message received from their system)?

    Hi.

    Exchange 2003, version 6.5 build 7638.2 Service pack 2.

It is not only one exchange that is the problem.

we have a lot of ppl that cant see the attached items.

Do you want a copy of an email.

    Regards René

    After further testing.

Its not only when that files contain æøå..

I have an email, that is containing 2 PDF files, and when they are recived on exchange 2003, office outlook 2010. they become .dat files.

Nothing specfic in the file names, but the files do contain æøå. Dont know if that is the problem.

Have you seen problems like it before?

    Regards René

    Hi René,

that this occurs with Exchange 2003 underlines what I was already thinking. This is a well known issue commonly known as the "RFC-2047 vs RFC-2231"-issue and acutally concern more the exchange side than Zarafa (it also occurs with other sending clients and servers). Exchange 2007 (and up) support RFC-2231, whereas Exchange 2003 (and below) is not able to understand the newer formatting.

From what I can see this issue should have been adressed in libvmime-0.9.2+svn603-2, but I don't know which libvime version is shipped with the Synology packages and if there is a change to only update these.

So this is the Exchange that has a problem? Or?

Can i see any where, what Libvmime and svn i run on synology?

Its kinda a problem for me, and if there arent and easy solution, and its not the zarafa that is the problem. Then i thing i will install an Exchange server.. Then the problem should be gone.

Yes, it is Exchange not understanding the newer RFC. I acutally do not know where to look for this information on a Synology system. The packages provided by Synology are not built by us, but from a third party.

The other solution would be to install Zarafa on a proper Linux distribution for which we directly build the packages. Depending on your Linux know-how you can also take a look into Z-Admin (), which is a webgui to change to most common settings.
