Thread: shared folders and read-flag

    shared folders and read-flag

    Hi,

is there a possibility to have this szenario:
    2 Users, one public folder
The users have full access to the inbox of each other
User 1 recieves a ne mail and read it.
User 2 checks user 1's inbox and see this email as unread until he reads the mail.

Right now it could happen that user 2 reads mails in user 1's inbox ... then the mail is unread and user 1 sees no new mail ... even if user 2 has read-only-rights to the box.

The same with mails in the shared folder.

I do not know if Exchange can handle this but with cyrus-imap every user marks mails as read individually.
I don't really need this feature in the imap-interface but in webaccess it would be nice.

I hope you understand my wish and can tell me if it can be configured somewhere or if there are plans to implement such a feature.

    regards kim

    Re: shared folders and read-flag

    Hi Kim,

It's impossible with Zarafa and also Exchange to have a read flag per user.
This is always globally, so for everybody the same.

    Re: shared folders and read-flag

    Hello Milo,

sorry for the late reply. But we are using zarafa only for a short time.

We wanted to use it as a replacement for our exchange server - well, indeed we already replaced it..

You are wrong if you tell it was not possible with exchange to have an own read status on public folders for anybody with exchange!

The point is that we used to use this feature highly:
There are different folders like support, inquiry, purchase and some more. Different people from our technical and administrative support are reading the messages in these folders. And everybody can see if a new message arrives. Even if a message already in any of these folders gets changed (we use this feature to add comments or new status), every reader can see a new "unread message".

Well you can say now we didn't test enough before we switched to zarafa. But I do think on your marketing promises "...Zarafa is the only scalable MS Exchange replacement available".

I don't want to offend you with this but I really could need some help! This way working is a lot harder for us: Every one has to regularly scan a dozen folders now..

    Regards,

    tobias

    Re: shared folders and read-flag

    Hello tobias,

I checked this on a exchange 2007 server and indeed in the public folders the read flags are per user.

I will create a feature request for this. If you are a paying customer please send a email to support with this issue. Then we can
link customers to the feature and add weight.

    Greetings,
    Robin

Has there been any success for the read flag on shared folders or public store?

    Thanks

    Hello All,

This is not a small feature that is easy to implement. It is unlikely to make it in to the 7.0 or 7.1 series.

Is there any work around for what I want to achieve? Can we have a rule where any new message in any shared folder can send a RSS feed that tells a user that a new message lies in the folder ?

We have the same issue. With our old Exchange system, we would rely on the individual read /unread flags but now as a work around we flag the emails with different colors. Green for done, Yellow for pending response and Red for problem. The problem with this is that sometimes users mark the emails the wrong color such as green and we don't follow up with the clients. We need a way to find out what was the user that changed the color so we can discipline the user that is causing problems. This would really help us out.
