    Thunderbird & IMAP email colortagging

    Greetings

Situation: Multiple users are working with a single Zarafa IMAP-account, going through series of orders. Right now the users work using the Zarafa webmail [6.40.2-22452] since it features the color flagging (colored flags), which they can use for signalling each other for various things like who did what, or if something is left pending.

But since webmail has its problems in heavy usage, I'm searching a way to move to an email client like Thunderbird (v 3.1.3).

Problem: While Thunderbird has a similar color-tagging, the tag is only local which means other users cannot see the color tags with their Thunderbird-clients. Also the Zarafa's webmail color flags are seen only as yellow starts on Thunderbird. So is there any possibility to bring the color flagging to thunderbird or any other email client?

I think this option is not supported by imap itself.

Actually, this is an optional part of the IMAP specification: see and search for PERMANENTFLAGS; see for a description of this feature in Thunderbird.

That said, it would be really useful if Zarafa would support this feature, however I can appreciate that only a small number of Zarafa users use Thunderbird.

... only a small number of Zarafa users use IMAP-Clients ...

    Because with Zarafa
    - you cannot access other users mailboxes
    - "marked as deleted" works ... not right
    - unsubscribing of special folder does not work
    - Zarafa has poor IMAP Support
    - you have no permanentflags
    - ...

I work with Linux and use Zarafa because of Calendar, Tasks and Contacts - our customer use Outlook - that works fine.

But I'm looking forward for future versions of Zarafa-IMAP-Gateway.

    Hello All,

I will create a feature request for this. I could be that is will be in the new gateway.

And Kiar: - "marked as deleted" works ... not right We do it as the IMAP standard. No all client work that way,

    I wantetd to say:
If I mark a message as deleted e.g. from mulberry (the client with one of the best imap-integration) the mail is still shown in webaccess.

    Hello Kiar,

That is as IMAP works the message will be marked for deletion but not yet deleted until it receives the expunge signal.
Thunderbird has an added feature for this. But most Imap client will only do the expunge when you tell them to or close the program.

Re: Thunderbird & IMAP email colortagging

    Hi Robin,

I know about mark and expunge.
In TB you can say if you want to see marked mails or not but you see if the mail is marked or not.

We use a lot of IMAP-features like mark as deleted and tagging with cyrus and mulberry/TB
It's quite comfortable if you use Linux. With different access-rights for user-mailboxes and shared folders you can have an nice tree and you are not addicted to webaccess or outlook for reading mails in other mailboxes.
Also with cyrus and the right to access other users mailboxes I can mark a mail as read - only for me but not for the other user.

But it does not really matter what I like - our customer uses Outlook and is quit happy with the Zarafa-solution.

And maybe in further releases new features will be included to allow alternate clients to work with zarafa like outlook.

Re: Thunderbird & IMAP email colortagging

Robin, could you please let me know if Zarafa will make this feature available? We use Thunderbird with mac OS X clients and it would be really nice if we could use the color flags like we do with our windows/outlook clients. Also, will there be support for Outlook 2011 on OS X?

    Thank you.
