    backup and restore of zarafa

    dear all,

I have zarafa server 7.1.2community version installed via zadmin and have used zadmin to setup my mail server
i am using local ldap and have used zadmin web interface to create users
now in zadmin web interface i have configured the zarafa backup option

now I see that the directories have been create example in the directory path specified but they are empty

    rwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 7 16:10 20161207-F
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 9 22:00 20161209-20161207-D
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 12 22:00 20161212-20161207-D
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 14 16:10 20161214-F

    just wondering.

    appreciate if someone can advise

    regards

    dear all,

As i said before in the above post i have zarafa server . i have managed to backup all users mail using my sql backup but i need to backup ldap since all users names, passwords and other details in ldap
i was googling arround but no much luck

    i tried the below

    https://github.com/alexanderjackson/...up-and-restore

but when i go to zadmin console or zarafaadmin -L does not show me any users
i guess probably the ldap database is not added to zarafa or zarafa not aware of the ldap

also if I copy the entire /var/lib/ldap folder will it work

    appreciate your kind help

    regards

    simon

    Hi Simon,

unfortunately the z-admin developers are no longer around. The first section you showed looks like it was supposed to be for the output of zarafa-backup, which is not included in the community edition. From the old manuals (https://doc.zarafa.com/trunk/ZAdmin/...dmin-en-US.pdf) there seems to be a "configuration backup" option, but to me its not really clear if this should include users from ldap.

But in any way your linked script should be sufficient to backup and restore an ldap tree, so I'm wondering what kind of error you get.

    dear felix,

I did a fresh installation and jus to be careful copied the /var/lib/ldap* from the working server to my fresh install server and also /etc/ldap*
stoped ldap , changed the permisons and restated . no errors but when i say zarafa-admin -l no users are seen also in yaffas zadmin web interface no users seen but if I run slapcat on my fresh new installed server i see all the users.

    here is my config

working server is centos 5.8 64 bit with zarafa installed via yum using the docs https://doc.zarafa.com/trunk/ZAdmin/...dmin-en-US.pdf

    Zarafa version 7,1,2,39121

new server centos 6.7 64 bit

    zarafa version 7,1,13,51032

appreciate your help and advice. is there anymore thing i need to do

The way to copy /var/lib/ldap is probably the culprit here. I would suggest to the the following route: http://serverfault.com/a/796163

    dear felix,

    I did check this out
    i did the below

    /usr/sbin/slapcat -f /etc/openldap/slapd.conf -n 0 > /root/ldap-backup/config.ldif
    gives me
    --------------
/etc/openldap/slapd.conf: line 145: rootdn is always granted unlimited privileges.
    slapcat: could not open database.

    --------
    and

    /bin/nice /usr/sbin/slapcat -f /etc/openldap/slapd.conf -n 1 > /root/ldap-backup/domain.ldif

    gives me
    ------------
/etc/openldap/slapd.conf: line 145: rootdn is always granted unlimited privileges.
    bdb_db_open: Warning - No DB_CONFIG file found in directory /var/lib/ldap: (2)
Expect poor performance for suffix dc=xxx,dc=xxx,dc=xxx.
    ----------

    dir listing /root/ldap-backup

    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Feb 2 08:28 .
    drwxr-x--- 6 root root 4096 Feb 2 08:25 ..
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Feb 2 09:38 config.ldif
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 633066 Feb 2 09:42 domain.ldif

The config.ldif file has 0 bytes.wondering why slapcat cannot open database file

i googled arround and most of the post says it due to referencing a wrong sldap.conf file
but i have given the path too

appreciate if you can help and advice cause i am a novice in database

    regards

    simon
