    IMAP on OS X Mail client (10.11.5)

    Dear All,

    Not sure if anyone else has this issue, but when I use OS X's mail app with IMAP, it appears that I often cannot delete an email right after it arrived. Only after some time (maybe a minute or more?), it would delete after several attempts.
    Sometimes, the error pops up immediately, sometimes only after a couple of seconds and then the deleted email will be back in the inbox. The error message tells me that the email couldn't be moved to trash.

    I checked my config, according to this thread for the

    imap_expunge_on_delete = yes

    in /etc/zarafa/gateway.cfg

    and it's indeed set. So this didn't solve my problem.

    I don't have this problem with other servers, such as Dovecot or outlook.com, but it also doesn't seem to affect all emails I receive.

    For example, if I send myself an email from apple iCloud mail, with only a short text line, no problem.

    I really have no clue where to start from. Anyone having an idea?

    can you set the log level in gateway to 6 and post the output right after you perform that action?

    Suyi,

    Thanks for picking up on this issue.

    --> before deleting the email:

    Wed Jun 8 17:37:20 2016: [debug ] [20491] < 30.45 IDLE
    Wed Jun 8 17:37:20 2016: [debug ] [20491] > + waiting for notifications

    --> deleting email (unsuccessfully)

    Wed Jun 8 17:37:33 2016: [debug ] [20308] < DONE
    Wed Jun 8 17:37:33 2016: [debug ] [20308] > BAD was not idling

    So, I tried to start gateway without idle option and then the log entry looks like this:

    Wed Jun 8 17:55:30 2016: [debug ] [21204] < 24.74 CHECK
    Wed Jun 8 17:55:31 2016: [debug ] [21204] > 24.74 OK CHECK completed

    Still, the email will not delete and just come back with Mac OS error message.

    Now, what I found out now is that I have to try 10 times (!), before deletion will be successful. Log will show as follows then:

    Wed Jun 8 18:04:48 2016: [debug ] [21555] < DONE
    Wed Jun 8 18:04:48 2016: [error ] [21555] Disconnecting client of user username because too many (10) erroneous commands received, last reply:
    Wed Jun 8 18:04:48 2016: [error ] [21555] BAD was not idling
    Wed Jun 8 18:04:48 2016: [notice ] [21555] Disconnecting client.
    Wed Jun 8 18:04:48 2016: [notice ] [21555] Client [ip]:56985 thread exiting

    Hope this info helps?

    p.s. (OT) Meanwhile I found out that the "map_expunge_on_delete" option in the cfg - if set to yes - is breaking the possibility to use fetchmail to feed mail from SPAM to autolearn at spam assassin! In order to keep it working, this must be set to no. However, this seems not to have any effect on the Mac Mail delete issue here.
