    [RESOLVED] New Function Request

    It would be extremely useful if the unix plugin was more configurable in the way it parses for uid's and gid's. Currently we are only able to set a range for each.

    min_user_uid = 5000
    max_user_uid = 10000

    min_group_gid = 1000
    max_group_gid = 2000

    I think the easiest way to accomplish this without interfering with current configurations would be provide 2 additional configuration settings that would exclude id's from each. Variable parameters that would take single entries and ranges, something like this:

    For instance, to exclude users 5005 through 5010 and 5025 and 5033:
    exclude_user_uid = 5005-5010, 5025, 5033

    And to exclude groups 1005, 1007 and 1010 through 1015:
    exclude_group_gid = 1005, 1007, 1010-1015

    Is this something that could be considered?

    Thanks,

    pfloor

    I would vote for an include list and ignore the current min/max values, but maybe with your exclude list.

    So you could specify it like this:

    user_uid = 100, 1000-2000, 2501, 3000-3010

    Re: New Function Request

    That would be the ideal way to do it and I thought of that too, but I was conerned about the thousands of existing installations that are already configured to use the min/max values however, you have given me another prospective.

    -Leave min/max as they are (to not disturb existing installs).
    -Add user_uid and group_gid configuration parameters.
    -If user_uid/group_gid is/are blank, use min/max values.
    -If user_uid/group_gid is/have values, ignore min/max values.

    If it were done this way, there wouldn't be a real need for an exclude list. An exclude list in this scenario could be handy but not necessary.

    Re: New Function Request

    Could one of the developers please give their perspective on this topic.

    I'm trying to integrate zarafa into SME and the way zarafa parses uid/gid's is a real stumbling block.

    Any feedback (good or bad) would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Re: New Function Request

    I think it is an interesting feature, personally I think the
    include_uid/include_gid would be the best option, but they don't need to be mutual-exclusive for the old configuration options.
    It could create an intersection where min/max values are used if they are set, and all values listed in the include configuration option are added to the min/max range. Obviously when min/max isn't set the include configuration option contains the complete list of ids.

    Re: New Function Request

    Be aware that when you do this you could get some support calls from people who add an uid to the include option but it doesn't work because it is out of range :P

    Re: New Function Request

    Sorry, didn't mean intersecting, but adding (it is still early in the morning :P)
    What I suggest is making the following configuration settings have equal results:
    EDIT: Where equal means all uids from 100 to 200 is accepted + the single uid 250.

    Re: New Function Request (RESOLVED)

    6.40 now has the ability to exclude individual uids and gids, see unix.cfg

    except_user_uids =
    except_group_gids =

    This is a godsend, thank you to the developers!!!
